Euthanasia Is A Very Controversial Topic That Has Been
Euthanasia is a very controversial topic that has been around for many years. It has a wide range of what is considered okay. There are a lot of people against euthanasia. Some of the people think that a few types are permissible, while others are not. There is a final group that supports it and that all forms of euthanasia are okay. Euthanasia is defined as a ââ¬Å"painless killing of a patient suffering from an incurable and painful disease or in an irreversible coma.â⬠(dictionary.com) In other words it is a good death for a suffering patient, who cannot be cured. Passive euthanasia and physician assisted suicide are more likely to agree with than active euthanasia because both of these do not actively kill the patient. Passive euthana sia is allowing the patient to die, and assisted suicide is letting the patient do it themselves. I think that passive euthanasia is worse than active because the patient suffers more than they would if they had been injected with a painless injection. Passive euthanasia includes: the taking away of food, water and necessary things to keep a person alive. Doctors are usually more okay with this because it does not go against their code of ethics. Passive euthanasia is currently not legal in the United States. Assisted suicide is legal in Oregon and some European countries. People are more okay with the patient doing physician assisted suicide because the patient is not pressured into it and have an equal option to life of death. Since people are more okay with these forms of euthanasia, I think they should reconsider their ideas on active euthanasia. Passive euthanasia seems more inhumane than active because of all that goes into it.
